Writers Tears Copper Pot
Is a light, sweet Irish whiskey made using a mix of single pot still and single malt whiskeys, resulting in oodles of honeyed, fruity notes. Wonderfully easy to drink, it would make for a great introduction to Irish whiskey for folks new to the spirit. (No writers were harmed in the making of this whiskey.)
Nose: Soft and sweet with thick honey spread on granary toast. Hints of citrus peels.
Taste: Honey develops on the palate. Mellow notes of vanilla and golden malt. Green apple skin, caramel and a hint of oak.
Finish: Warming, sweet and long.
Writers Tears Red Head
A lovely fruity release from the Walsh distillery in south east Ireland, Writers Tears Red Head was named so because of its inviting shade of amber, we assume. The no age statement single malt has been matured exclusively in Oloroso sherry casks, and is bottled without chill filtering at 46% ABV.
Nose: Candied orange peel, chocolate covered marzipan, sherried dried fruit, and praline and tropical fruit.
Palate: An oily nuttiness, with fruity Christmas cake, tangy pineapple, liquorice and melted milk chocolate.
Finish: Rich walnut with oak and baking spice lingering.
The Irishman Single Malt
The Irishman Single Malt Irish Whiskey comes, surprisingly, from Ireland. It's a triple distilled expression which is aged in both sherry and bourbon casks for over 10 years before bottling.
Nose: Light and fruity on the nose. A little hint of liquorice pops up, as does crumbly vanilla fudge.
Taste: A classic pudding of peaches and cream with a sprinkling of crushed up biscuits and almonds.
Finish: Fairly long, with oak cropping up near the end.
